Large-scale paint booth: the System Car case
Painting large-scale equipment, such as industrial or military vehicles, presents complex challenges across several areas: space management, application uniformity, corrosion resistance, and regulatory compliance. In these contexts, tailor-made solutions are essential. Linea Eco-Air provides large-scale paint booths designed to meet these specific requirements, ensuring high performance even for the most demanding projects.
A true example is System Car, an Italian job coater for special-purpose vehicles. Throughout a long-standing partnership beginning in 2001, Linea Eco-Air has designed and installed several systems and over 100 paint booths. This includes a specialized booth for painting large military and industrial vehicles, the specifications of which are detailed in this article.
System Car and its requirements
System Car, based in Chero di Carpaneto Piacentino (PC), specializes in job coating of industrial, civilian, and military vehicles. Since 2001, the company has consistently invested in cutting-edge technology, installing several liquid painting systems and over 100 booths of various sizes and models, all designed, manufactured, and installed by Linea Eco-Air.System Car’s primary need was a large-scale paint booth capable of handling exceptionally bulky vehicles while ensuring high-quality finishes, energy efficiency, and regulatory compliance. To meet this demand, Linea Eco-Air designed a booth 7.50 meters high, 10.50 meters wide, and 24 meters long, alongside three 20-meter booths. These are engineered to paint multiple vehicles simultaneously without color cross-contamination, thanks to an advanced ventilation system.
Linea Eco-Air paint booth: technical specifications
The expertise of Linea Eco-Air’s technicians has led to the design and construction of a large-scale paint booth with industry-leading features. The main booth boasts impressive dimensions:
- Width: 10.50 meters
- Height: 7.50 meters
- Length: 24 meters
Key advantages of the booth include:
- Patented aluminum structure
- Panels certified as load-bearing with Class A2 s1 d0 fire resistance
- Ability to install all technical components on the roof
- No excavation required for installation
- Up to a 60% reduction in fuel and electricity consumption
- Full compliance with European standards regarding air velocity.
System Car’s coating cycle
The company operates across various industrial sectors, from civil and military to marine and oil & gas. Thanks to the large-scale booths provided by Linea Eco-Air, it can paint military vehicles, trucks, and agricultural machinery. The production cycle consists of several phases:
1. Shot blasting
A critical surface treatment to enhance corrosion resistance. Treated vehicles are frequently exposed to extreme environmental conditions, such as high humidity, rain, and UV radiation.2. Coating application
Inside the paint booths, the following are applied:- primer
- Two or three coats of polyurethane paint
3. Drying
Components can either:- Remain in the same booth for drying
- Be transferred via trolleys to dedicated ovens.
The drying phase occurs at temperatures between 80°C and 100°C, using ovens designed and installed by Linea Eco-Air. This process ensures robust protection against corrosion and weathering, significantly extending the vehicles' service life.
